Dangerous Goods & DGSA FAQs

ADR 1.8.3 requires many organisations involved in the carriage of dangerous goods to appoint a DGSA.

It applies to consignors, carriers, packers, fillers, loaders and unloaders, subject to some exemptions. The exemptions arise from ADR 1.8.3.2 and have been implemented by CDG Regulation 3(j). HSE's guidance is that these GB exemptions do not apply to international carriage.

Read our full guide: Do I need a DGSA?

You do not need a full ADR driver training certificate when transporting goods under Limited Quantities. However, you must still receive dangerous goods awareness training relevant to your role. This is covered by our Dangerous Goods Awareness course — no separate Limited Quantity course is needed.

We work with businesses across Essex and throughout the UK, and can support international operations.

In many cases, we can provide initial support, guidance and intervention within 24 hours.

The DGSA exams are challenging but manageable with proper preparation. They require a solid understanding of ADR and CDG regulations, classification, documentation and practical application of the legislation. We support and guide you to prepare effectively and pass with confidence.
